Fees for Sigs…and other news
Hi all. This just in from the SCMS Board Meeting re fees for SIG participation:
We have received word from the board members on SIG fees and they were unanimously approved at the last meeting.The technological logistics of this, especially with the changes and exceptions that many of the SIGs would like to make for underemployed and graduate student members, will take a bit of time to iron out. Aviva Dove-Viebahn is the organization’s Website Content Manager and we urge the chairs of interested SIGs to get in touch with her directly to identify needs and expectations and discuss the timeline for implementation.
So, fees are a done deal. If you’ll recall, we created a survey to assess War and Media Studies interest in charging said fees. Results were unanimously “no, we should not charge fees,” but there were only 4 responses, so that’s hardly representative. I’m going to ask again for members to take 2 minutes to complete the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RN9T26T.
Also on that agenda is the possible name change for the SIG. Current preference is for “Conflict, War and Media Studies,” but other options are available. Please add your voice!
