2024 Boston Conference: UPDATE on Networking Meeting

~~SUMMER NETWORKING MEETING UPDATE~~

Dear WMS Members!
We hosted a virtual networking meeting on Friday, July 28. And, though sparsely attended (it is summer after all), we had some productive discussions we wanted to share.
Kate McClancy is potentially interested in putting together a panel on the Barbenheimer phenomenon, perhaps as it relates to atomic nostalgia. You can reach out to Kate directly at kmcclancy@txstate.eduif you’re interested in collaborating.
We also brainstormed potential topics of interest, and while there’s no one attached to these projects yet, feel free to use them as the basis for your own paper or panel:
– CIA involvement in coups and shadow wars, as depicted in recent TV series like Jack Ryan, Reacher, etc.
– AI, robotics, and war (next year’s SCMS will be in Boston, home to MIT and Boston Dynamics, both with substantial DoD contracts/funding)
– Iconography of the American Revolution and its (re)appropriation in contemporary film/media/visual culture (another Boston inspired topic)
You can always use the SCMS bulletin board or let us know if you’re trying to drum up interest in a panel/roundtable/workshop, and we’ll get the word out.
***Please add your panel concepts to the WMS Shared Google doc:

Also, if you’ve got publications (or other accomplishments) or CFPs you’d like us to advertise to the group, get in touch!
Stay tuned for the resumption of our regular monthly newsletters.
Take care,
The WMS Team (Cortland, Nathan, and Vivienne)
