Add your concepts and build a panel!

Current panels in development:

Co-chair Cortland’s panel:

“Mediating Environments at War”: This panel aims to gather research that centers on the intersection of urban and connected environments, conflict, and media (broadly construed).

Co-chair Nathan’s panel:

“Future War”: This panel examines the ways in which war, militarization, and global crises are framed in popular genres such as horror and science fiction.

Grad Rep Vivienne’s panel:

“Cinematic Hauntings of War”: This panel explores ghostly, supernatural, and uncanny hauntings in visual media where their disturbing presence functions as manifestations of memory and as vehicles for truth, catharsis, and justice.

This shared Google doc serves as a platform for members to connect and develop War and Media Studies-related projects in advance of the deadlines for the 2023 SCMS Conference, which is currently scheduled for Wednesday, April 12 to Saturday, April 15, 2023, in Denver

The deadline for seminar proposals is Monday, August 1, 2022, 5:00 PM US Central Time.

The deadline for all other conference proposals (pre-constituted panels, open call papers, workshops, roundtables) is Wednesday, August 31, 2022, 5:00 PM US Central Time.

While historically the SCMS Bulletin Board has been (and continues to be) a useful resource, the SIG leadership team wanted to offer a networking opportunity over the summer for those interested in collaborating on proposals. To that end, we hosted an informal Zoom Networking Meeting on Monday, June 27, 2022. What follows are some of the ideas for panels, workshops, etc. that came out of that meeting. Feel free to reach out to the contacts listed or add your own ideas and contact info. See the SCMS FAQ for more info on the types of presentations and the proposal process.

Please note this shared Google doc is a public platform with the access link sent to all WMS SIG members and posted on WMS and SCMS websites.

Happy networking!
